BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Several candidates on both sides of the aisle are running to succeed Democratic U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Florida’s newly redrawn 25th Congressional District.
The Democratic candidates seeking the vote are U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, who currently represents Florida’s 23rd Congressional District, and Oliver Larkin.
Moskowitz, who was born in Coral Springs, served as a Parkland city commissioner from 2006 to 2012 and in the Florida House of Representatives from 2012 to 2019.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed Moskowitz as the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management from 2019 to 2021. He has been representing Florida’s 23rd Congressional District since 2023.
So far this election cycle, Moskowitz has raised $2.9 million.
Larkin, 32, a union organizer, follows Moskowitz and five Republicans with more than $541,000 in total funds raised, according to campaign finance data.
The five Republican candidates running in Florida’s 25th Congressional District are Scott Singer, Daniel Franzese, George R. Moraitis, Raven Harrison and Joe Kaufman.
Singer, 49, is the Republican at the top of the campaign finance list with more than $1.99 million in total funds raised, according to the Federal Election Commission.
Franzese, who earned his MBA at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1989, follows Singer on the list with more than $1.47 million raised.
Moraitis, 55, a retired lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve who was born in Fort Lauderdale, followed Singer and Franzese after raising more than $839,000.
Harrison, a Temple University grad who was born in Texas, follows Moraitis with more than $778,000 in total receipts while Kaufman, a counter-terrorism expert known as the “Terrorist Hunter,” follows Harrison with more than $631,500 in total funds raised.
