MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Rumors surrounding a potential trade between the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers for tight end Jonnu Smith are heating back up.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the Steelers have renewed conversations with the Dolphins about acquiring Smith, who is seeking a new contract.
According to Schefter, the trade “is still alive,” despite earlier suggestions that Pittsburgh had cooled on the idea.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel addressed the speculation during Tuesday’s media availability, saying Smith remains an important piece of Miami’s offense and that trading him isn’t a focus for the team right now.
The 29-year-old tight end signed a two-year, $8.4 million deal with the Dolphins last offseason and made an immediate impact, leading the team in receptions (88), receiving yards (884), and touchdowns (8) — earning Miami’s only Pro Bowl selection in 2024.
Smith is entering the final year of his deal and is reportedly seeking a raise.
If the Dolphins are unwilling to meet his salary demands, they could still explore trade options — with Pittsburgh once again emerging as a possible destination.
