MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Bayron Matos, the Miami Dolphins offensive lineman who was airlifted from the practice field after a collision on the first day of training camp last week, has been discharged from the hospital, according to the Palm Beach Post.
It comes after the team confirmed last week that the 24-year-old was stable and has movement in all his limbs. Although he was previously under medical observation for further evaluation and treatment.
The incident occurred on July 23 when Matos collided with a teammate. While team hasn’t revealed the exact nature of the injury, they did confirm that it involved his upper body.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Matos is in his second year with Miami.
He joined the team through the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. Before switching to football, he played college basketball at New Mexico and South Florida, then walked on to USF’s football team, where he played sparingly.
After signing with Miami as an undrafted free agent, Matos spent last season on the practice squad.
This year, he was competing for a backup tackle spot behind starters Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson, alongside Larry Borom, Jackson Carman and Kion Smith.
