MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — For Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal, Saturday night’s 45-3 win over Bethune-Cookman wasn’t just about the score. It was about focus, progress and a clean bill of health.
“No doubt, and that was the focus — focus on us and us getting better,” Cristobal said after the game. “You still have to play your guys. You’ve got to come to these games full throttle, and our guys did a good job while they were in there. That granted us the opportunity for the other guys to play as well, so we got the best of both worlds.”

Quarterback Carson Beck made history early, completing his first 15 passes to break Vinny Testaverde’s single-game completion streak that had stood since 1986.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s super cool, obviously, to perform at a high level and do things like that,” Beck said in his postgame interview on breaking the record. “Those guys are out there making plays. The old line was giving me all the time in the world, and when you’ve got CJ (Daniels) going up and grabbing balls out of the air like that, it makes my job a little easier.”
Beck finished 22 of 24 for 267 yards and two touchdowns before giving way to Emory Williams in the fourth quarter.
Beck added that he had been motivated by a friendly exchange with Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
“He texted me like, ‘Oh, you’re not gonna break my record,’” Beck said with a grin. “So I was like, all right, I’m gonna try to get 19 in a row. But it was super cool, man.”
Cristobal said Beck’s performance was a reflection of his steady improvement.

“He keeps getting better and better,” Cristobal said. “Every practice, every week, there’s this continued growth, development, and really you see a growth in the appetite for more. He just wants to get better. He wants Miami to get better. He wants Miami to win, and he’s all about the team.”
On defense, Miami nickelback Keionte Scott credited his success to the scheme and his teammates after making several plays in the backfield.

“Yeah, I definitely would just say, you know, thankful for the defensive scheme for sure and just thankful for all the guys around me, just everybody’s doing their part,” Scott said. “I felt like the defense is very special when everybody’s doing their one-eleventh. And it shows on the field.”
Scott said he relishes the chance to get physical as a defensive back after making a big hit on a running back in the Wildcats backfield.
“Yeah, it’s definitely fun,” Scott said. “Coaches put me in that position to make that play. I pride myself on being able to make those type of plays.”
“We came out clean for the most part,” Cristobal added. “Our guys did their job, and when that happens, the big plays come.”
