Lamar Jackson tosses 4 TDs in South Florida return as Dolphins drop to 2-7

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Lamar Jackson’s return to South Florida couldn’t have gone much better for the 2-time MVP.

The Boynton Beach High School alum threw four touchdown passes — including two to tight end Mark Andrews — as the Baltimore Ravens rolled past the Miami Dolphins 28-6 on Thursday Night Football.

Miami opened the game with promise.

Tua Tagovailoa hit Jaylen Waddle for a 20-yard strike on the first play, setting up a 48-yard field goal by Riley Patterson to give the Dolphins a quick 3-0 lead.

But the Ravens quickly seized control after safety Alohi Gilman forced a fumble from Dolphins receiver Tahj Washington.

Jackson capitalized, connecting with Andrews on fourth down from two yards out to put Baltimore ahead 7-3 late in the first quarter.

After Patterson missed a 48-yard attempt wide right on Miami’s next drive, Jackson found Andrews again — this time on a 20-yard crossing route — to extend Baltimore’s lead to 14-3.

Patterson’s second field goal of the night, from 43 yards, cut the deficit to 14-6 before halftime.

Despite keeping Jackson largely in check early — he had just 89 passing yards and two scores through two quarters — Miami’s defense couldn’t stop Baltimore after the break.

Jackson opened the third quarter by leading a methodical drive capped by a 1-yard tush push from Andrews and then a 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Charlie Kolar, his third of the night.

After a Dolphins three-and-out, Jackson went right back to work.

He hit Zay Flowers for a 39-yard gain and then found Rashod Bateman wide open for a 9-yard touchdown — his fourth of the game — giving Baltimore a commanding 28-6 lead.

Jackson finished 17 of 24 for 246 yards and four touchdowns, marking one of his best performances of the season and a memorable return to his hometown crowd.

Derrick Henry added 86 rushing yards on 15 carries, including a 36-yard burst late in the third quarter.

Miami’s offense, meanwhile, never found rhythm.

Running back De’Von Achane and Jaylen Waddle were the lone bright spots on offense, posting several first down gains. It’s also worth noting that the Dolphins lost rookie Ollie Gordon II to an ankle injury.

Penalties and miscues continued to plague Miami.

Two fumbles, including one by Malik Washington in the fourth quarter, ended potential scoring drives. The Dolphins were also flagged for multiple false starts and a tripping penalty that wiped out positive field position.

Tagovailoa also threw an interception to safety Malaki Starks with just over 6 minutes in the fourth quarter. His 11 interceptions on the season are the most in the NFL.

Jackson finished the game by completing 18 of his 23 passes for 204 yards and the four scores.

Tagovailoa went 25 of 40 for 261 yards with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception.

The loss drops the Dolphins to 2-7, with their playoff hopes now on life support.
