MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins, along with the NFL’s 31 other teams, trimmed their rosters from 90 to 53 players on Tuesday.
“One of my least favorite days that exist,” Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel alluded to reporters last week.
According to multiple reports, the Dolphins began releasing players Monday. Additional cuts will be made ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, of course.
Here are the reported cuts so far:
• WR Erik Ezukanma — A 2022 fourth-round pick, Ezukanma showed flashes in Miami’s preseason finale with three receptions for 25 yards. But he faced long odds in a crowded receiver room. He was also waived in 2024 before returning on the practice squad.
• S Patrick McMorris — Drafted earlier this year, McMorris was in the mix for a starting safety job. Miami’s trade for Minkah Fitzpatrick this summer shifted the depth chart, and McMorris didn’t do enough to secure a spot.
• WR Theo Wease Jr. — One of four undrafted rookie receivers, Wease stood out in camp and scored two touchdowns in a preseason win against Detroit. Despite his strong showing, he’s headed for the waiver wire, though he remains a likely practice squad candidate.
• EDGE Derrick McLendon — Spent 2024 on the practice squad and showed growth this offseason, finishing with two sacks in preseason. The Dolphins could look to bring him back in that role.
• DT Matt Dickerson — Signed earlier this year, Dickerson impressed in camp but was caught in a numbers game after Miami used three 2025 draft picks on the defensive line.
• OLB Quinton Bell — Made the 53-man roster last season and recorded his first career sack in November. With Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips and Matthew Judon locked in, and younger talent emerging, Bell was squeezed out.
• CB Kendall Sheffield — A five-year veteran with 49 career games, signed in May. Sheffield has played for Atlanta, San Francisco, Tennessee and the New York Jets. He played two seasons at Ohio State after transferring from Blinn College, totaling 75 tackles, two interceptions and 19 passes defensed in college.
• CB Cornell Armstrong — Originally drafted by Miami in 2018, he returned to camp this summer. Armstrong has played with Miami, Houston and Atlanta, totaling 43 career tackles and seven passes defensed. He played four seasons at Southern Miss, recording 146 tackles, five interceptions and 34 passes defensed.
• CB BJ Adams — Rookie free agent out of UCF. Adams appeared in 48 games with 29 starts at Central Florida, totaling 88 tackles, two interceptions and 13 passes defensed over four seasons.
• WR Andrew Armstrong — First-team All-SEC receiver last season at Arkansas. Armstrong had 134 receptions for 1,904 yards and six touchdowns over two seasons at Arkansas, plus two years at Texas A&M Commerce with 77 receptions for 1,317 yards and 16 touchdowns.
• OL Braeden Daniels — A 2023 fourth-round pick by Washington, joined Miami in January. Daniels started 43 games at Utah, playing multiple positions along the offensive line and earning Pac-12 first-team honors in 2022.
• OL Ryan Hayes — A 2023 seventh-rounder who appeared in one game last season. Hayes was a three-year starter at Michigan and a two-time second-team All-Big Ten selection.
• DT Alex Huntley — Rookie out of South Carolina and two-time team captain. Huntley played in 50 games with 19 starts at South Carolina, totaling 82 tackles, four sacks and six passes defensed.
• LB Dequan Jackson — Second-year linebacker who spent last season on the practice squad. Jackson played 46 games at Colorado State, recording 307 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
• LB Mohamed Kamara — A 2024 fifth-round pick and former Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year at Colorado State, recording 30.5 career sacks in college.
• LB Grayson Murphy — Signed as a rookie in 2024 but missed last season on injured reserve. Murphy played 26 games at UCLA and 36 at North Texas, totaling 115 tackles and 11.5 sacks in college.
• OL Josh Priebe — Rookie out of Michigan, where he was an All-Big Ten lineman in 2024. Priebe started 49 games in college (including at Northwestern) and earned team captain honors.
• TE Hayden Rucci — Second-year player out of Wisconsin, recording 17 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown in college over 36 games.
• S John Saunders Jr. — Undrafted rookie out of Ole Miss and Miami (OH), totaling 169 tackles and 11 interceptions over five college seasons.
• LB Channing Tindall — A 2022 third-round pick who contributed mainly on special teams. Tindall played at Georgia, earning second-team All-SEC honors as a senior with 67 tackles.
• OT Bayron Matos — Waived/injured; developmental lineman from the NFL International Player Pathway Program. Played two seasons at South Florida and also competed in college basketball. He was airlifted on the team’s first day of training camp after sustaining an upper body injury.
• LB Eugene Asante — Waived with injury settlement; rookie free agent from Auburn. Asante played 66 college games at North Carolina and Auburn, recording 196 tackles, 7.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.
Additional cuts reported Monday include:
• RB Aaron Shampklin: Shampklin was added to the roster in the wake of a season-ending neck injury to RB Alexander Mattison.
• CB Mike Hilton: Signed at the very beginning of training camp, the Dolphins felt the need to move on from the veteran due to the emergence of rookie Jason Marshall Jr., Miami’s fifth-round pick projected to be Miami’s nickel corner.
• RB Mike Boone: Signed by Miami on Aug. 11, Boone scored a touchdown in Miami’s preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. We’ll see whether the Dolphins plan to add Boone to their practice squad.
• OL Jackson Carman: Carman joined the Dolphins in 2024 and made his Dolphins debut at right tackle against the Houston Texans last December. He was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021.
• OL Jalen McKenzie: McKenzie was a long shot to make the 53-man roster and is the son of former senior personnel executive Reggie McKenzie.
• DL Ben Stille: Signed by Miami on June 5, it was difficult to keep Stille around given that the Dolphins used three draft picks this past April on the defensive line, including Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips, and Zeek Biggers.
• CB Ethan Robinson: Having made the play of the preseason against the Detroit Lions, Robinson finds himself on the outside of the 53-man roster. Miami signed Robinson as an undrafted college free agent on May 9.
• WR A.J. Henning: Henning caught three passes for 34 yards in Miami’s three preseason games, but his release was expected given the depth of the Dolphins’ wide receiver room. It remains to be seen whether the team will bring Henning back on the practice squad.
• TE Pharaoh Brown: Signed by Miami as an unrestricted free agent from the Seattle Seahawks on March 17, the Dolphins are moving on from the veteran Brown, who caught a successful 2-point conversion from QB Tua Tagovailoa in the team’s preseason finale.
• OL Addison West: West, an undrafted rookie out of Western Michigan, performed well at center during the preseason. The Dolphins may opt to bring him back and add him to the practice squad.
• OL Mason Brooks: Brooks spent one week on Miami’s roster. He was signed after the Dolphins placed OL Yodny Cajuste on the season-ending injured reserve list.
• TE Chris Myarick: Myarick becomes the second tight end to be released on Monday. He was in his second season with the organization.
• CB Cameron Dantzler Sr.: Given all the unknowns surrounding Miami’s young and inexperienced cornerback room, the Dolphins’ release of Dantzler should not come as stunning news. The Dolphins signed Dantzler Sr. on Aug. 19.
The Dolphins also placed offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and added offensive lineman Andrew Meyer and kicker Jason Sanders to injured reserve. Both Meyer and Sanders are designated to return.
