Census 2020 Redistricting Meetings To Be Held In Miramar on Sept. 23
The Community Leader meeting is separate from the general public meeting and attendance is limited. Process of RedistrictingVice Mayor Yvette Colbourne, who championed Miramar’s Census 2020 awareness efforts stated, “With the recent release of the 2020 census data, the county will now start the process of redistricting or drawing political boundaries. Input from our residents and community leaders is key to the process.”The United States Census Bureau released the 2020 Census Data on August 12, 2021. The 2020 census data will provide the basis for Broward County to complete its required “redistricting”. Broward County retained experts from Florida International University (FIU) to prepare the County’s redistricting maps based upon the 2020 census data.

Community groups are now desperate to make sure that every person in South Florida is counted. And, with just one week to go, organizations like the United Way of Miami-Dade and Florida Counts are working to boost response rates. “In 2010, Miami-Dade County missed (what we) estimate (costs) over $2 billion and now Miami-Dade County, at this point, is 5 points under where they were in 2010,” Susan Racher of Florida Counts said. “It is quite significant,” Christina Blanco of United Way of Miami-Dade County said. You can complete the census online at my2020census.gov, or easily complete it over the telephone before the closing deadline on Sept. 30.
