Parents of Parkland victims don't want former Broward Sheriff Scott Israel reinstated
PARKLAND, Fla. - The Florida Senate will soon decide whether to reinstate Scott Israel as Broward County sheriff, as recommended by a special master. The parents of some Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting victims do not want Israel to get his job back. "This should not be about politics, (but) sadly Mr. Israel has made it about politics. Ron DeSantis called Israel's actions on the day of the Stoneman Douglas shooting inadequate, with parents backing up those claims. BSO failures under Mr. Israel were that deputies and detectives had numerous interactions with the shooter prior to that tragic day and did not follow through to complete further action required by BSO procedures."
Parkland victim's parents in El Paso during shooting
EL PASO, Texas - The parents of a student killed in last year's mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, were near El Paso, Texas, on Saturday when a gunman carried out another massacre. Sunday would have been his 19th birthday, and the parents planned to unveil a mural in El Paso for the occasion, marking the 30th city with such a mural. "(Joaquin) was very concerned and upset with the treatment we were giving to immigrants when they came to this country, so El Paso was great to do that," Manuel Oliver said on Monday. But on Saturday, while they were across the US-Mexico border in Ciudad Juarez, they learned of the anti-immigrant shooting at an El Paso Walmart that left 20 people dead. "Those people that lost loved ones yesterday in Ohio, here in El Paso, need to become the voice of their loved ones."
Grief of massacres hits home for survivors of Parkland shooting
"This is the second time that I am in a situation where there is a mass shooting close to me," Manuel Oliver said about the dreadful coincidence. During 13 hours, 29 people died in two mass shootings in the United States and Manuel and Patricia Oliver were in shock. My sincere condolences go out to the families of the victims killed in #daytonohio & praying the injured fully recover. Another senseless & horrific mass shootings of innocent persons as we still ponder & pray for the victims & families of the #elpasotexas massacre. Joaquin's parents have been lobbying for more strict gun laws in the United States.
