"Just a team thing,” Stefanski said during a Zoom call, without elaborating.

There's nothing left for the Cleveland Browns to accomplish this season, another failed one in a long line of malfunctions for one of the NFL's most inept franchises. “My decision,” Stefanski said. Stefanski declined to elaborate on Garrett's violation, but that Stefanski had to bench his best player for any time with the Browns still mathematically alive in the playoff chase underscores the team's sorry state.

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke turned toward coach Doug Pederson, smiled widely and said, “I’m pretty confident this will be the last time that I’ll be making the first pick.” No team or general manager in the NFL’s modern era (since 1970) has drafted No. 1 in three straight years. Tampa Bay would have done it as a fledgling expansion franchise in 1976-78, but the Buccaneers traded the top pick in 1978 to Houston.

"There is a finality to this one when you do not get it done in the playoffs, and that really hurts. However, Kansas City's defense dug in and forced the Browns to punt with 4:19 left. As they watched on the sideline, Mayfield and his offensive teammates felt that with one last chance, the Chiefs were finished.

Garrett appealed his suspension, claiming during a hearing that he lost his temper after Rudolph called him a racial slur. Garrett said it was never his intention for that information to become public, but following the decision to uphold the suspension, he reiterated his claim.
