Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Anna Eshoo (D-CA), and Peter Welch (D-VT) will introduce the Reopen America Act (RAA), legislation to establish a comprehensive, science-based national plan to re-open the U.S. economy through federal-state collaboration while aggressively protecting the public health against recurring COVID-19 outbreaks. The COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented disruptions to the fabric of American society, commerce, and public health, said Rep. Shalala. While we havent gotten to the end of this crisis, we must start preparing to reopen America in a way that protects public health, restores the economy and takes science-based measures into account. In order to ensure that we can safely resume daily life, we need robust testing, comprehensive contact testing and other safeguards to protect the health of the American people. Congress must provide the strategy and resources necessary for states to reopen for business while protecting their citizens.
