Dozier's single with the bases loaded off Stanek put the Royals ahead 2-1 and Alex Gordon's bases loaded increased Kansas City's advantage. Harold Ramirez's one-out single off Royals reliever Jacob Barnes in the eighth got Miami to within 6-2. Smith pitched six shutout innings, allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked two.

Starlin Castro helps Marlins rally past Phillies

The last-place Marlins improved to 9-7 against the Phillies with three games yet to play in late September. Nola (12-4) faced the minimum until the sixth, when he allowed four consecutive batters to reach as the Marlins erased a 2-0 deficit. ROSTER MOVESBefore the game, Miami recalled RHP Kyle Keller from Triple-A New Orleans and optioned RHP Tyler Kinley to New Orleans. Marlins RHP Pablo Lopez (5-5, 4.23) is scheduled to come off the injured list to pitch Monday night against Cincinnati.

Acua delivers winning single, Braves beat Marlins again

Adeiny Hechavarra opened the Atlanta ninth with a double and later scored on Acua's single off Ryne Stanek (0-3). Braves starter Mike Soroka hasn't won a decision in seven straight starts. Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara gave up Hechavarra's RBI single in the second, and allowed three hits overall in seven innings.

According to a report, the Marlins sent pitchers Trevor Richards and Nick Anderson to Tampa Bay, in exchange for pitcher Ryne Stanek and outfielder Jesus Sanchez. Stanek is 0-2 for the Rays this season with a 3.40 ERA, working worked 55.2 innings with 61 strikeouts. Sanchez is currently playing in the minors where he played in 96 games with the Triple-A Durham Bulls.
