BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians opened a new service plaza with a gas station, food court, and store on Tuesday near a casino on the reservation in Broward County.
The service plaza is set to open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., along Alligator Alley at Exit 49, to Snake Road, near Collier County’s Ochopee community.
At the service plaza’s food court, there is a Dunkin’ and the Glades Café. There are also some educational elements, including a large taxidermied alligator.
“I think it’s important for people to know about the tribe because we are the stewards of the Everglades,” said William J. Osceola, known among friends as “Popeye,” who serves as the secretary of the tribe’s business council.
Near the service plaza, the Miccosukee Tribe also runs the Little Trail Casino and the police department’s Alligator Alley precinct. The casino has dozens of slot machines and a full-service bar at 47801 West State Road 84.
