Dec. 29: Arctic front ends 80-degree heat, cooler weather arrives

Big changes are on the way as we ring in the new year in a few days. Look for one more warm day on Monday, with highs in the 80s, but that will be the last time we see 80-degree temperatures for at least a week as an Arctic cold front moves in on Tuesday.

By midnight on New Year’s Eve, temperatures will drop to around 50 degrees, with highs on New Year’s Day only topping out in the 60s. Morning lows will fall into the 40s for the first time this season by Thursday morning. While record lows are not expected, you’ll definitely need sweaters and jackets, especially if you plan to be outdoors at night by midweek. There’s no rain in sight over the next five to seven days, and temperatures will bounce back closer to normal by the weekend.
