Dec. 30: Cold front brings chilly New Year’s Eve to South Florida

A cold front is sliding past our area on Tuesday, and behind it, noticeably cooler and much drier air will settle into South Florida. This is the same powerful front responsible for widespread snow and ice across the Midwest and Northeast — and while we won’t see winter weather here, we will feel the chill starting later this afternoon as temperatures begin to drop.

If you have New Year’s Eve plans outdoors, bundle up — temperatures around midnight will be near 47°, with a cool breeze making it feel even colder. By New Year’s Day morning, we’ll wake up to feels-like temperatures in the 40s, and even the upper 30s in parts of South Florida. Sunshine returns, but the air stays crisp, keeping things chilly through the holiday.

Stay warm, South Florida — winter is paying us a quick visit.
