Feb. 19: Warm temperatures before powerful cold front

It’s a nice but warm day, with highs reaching 82 degrees in Miami. It will remain comfortable at night, with temperatures dropping into the 60s. We’re in the middle of a warming trend, with afternoon highs reaching record territory this weekend in the upper 80s.

A powerful cold front is set to move into South Florida Sunday night. It will drop low temperatures into the 50s Monday morning and the mid-40s Tuesday morning. Highs will struggle to climb out of the 60s, even with full sunshine during the day.

Behind the front, extremely dry air, combined with severe drought conditions and gusty winds, will create a significant brush fire threat Monday and Tuesday. This is especially concerning because the cold front Sunday night is expected to bring only a few light showers, meaning there won’t be a soaking rain ahead of it. We’ll closely monitor this potential as we head into next week.
