Feb. 20: Cold front to bring record heat, fire risk and 40s by Tuesday in South Florida

It was a nice day with highs in the low 80s, and Saturday looks to be about the same. The warming trend continues Sunday, with record heat possible in the upper 80s.

A strong cold front will move through South Florida around sunset Sunday. It could bring a quick shower or two for some areas, along with gusty winds.

Temperatures will drop to around 50 degrees Monday morning. Highs Monday will struggle to reach the mid-60s. The heart of the cold air arrives Tuesday morning, with lows near 42 degrees.

Expect more cold-stunned iguanas until they can warm up in the sun.

Multiple factors will come together Monday and Tuesday, creating a significant risk for brush fires that could ignite and spread rapidly. We’re expecting little to no rainfall with the front, extremely low humidity, wind gusts up to 25 mph and ongoing extreme drought conditions.

Fire weather alerts may be issued ahead of the cold front.
