Feb. 27: South Florida warms to mid-80s as humidity fuels inland storms

The warming trend continues with South Florida reaching the middle 80s on Friday afternoon. We also have the highest humidity levels in more than a month. This will help spark some thunderstorms, but most will be too far inland to affect populated areas. Highest chance will be for inland Broward County west of the Turnpike.

The focus of the forecast will be on the higher chance of thunderstorms this weekend. Expect scattered thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday afternoons. They will be hit or miss so some places will get more than others. These could produce locally heavy rainfall with some neighborhoods getting 1-2 inches of much needed rainfall while others squeeze in between and get a lot less. Some storms may contain lightning and gusty winds.

We will keep at least some rain chances in each day next week for some showers off the water. This will not eliminate the severe to extreme drought in the area, but it’s a step in the right direction.
