National Weather Service confirms severe weather was a tornado

Palm Springs North residents clean up after severe weather chaos

PALM SPRINGS NORTH, Fla. — A tree that had survived hurricane-force winds fell on a car parked in front of a home on Tuesday in Miami-Dade County’s Palm Springs North neighborhood.

During the cleanup on Wednesday, Jerardo Pardo, a Palm Springs North resident, said he would have never expected the damage.

“That’s my neighbor’s roof,” Pardo said while standing in his driveway.

On Wednesday, the National Weather Service confirmed there was a tornado with 65 to 85 mph peak winds at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

“Take Miami warnings seriously because here in Miami, I never did. I was like, ‘Nah!’ But now, it’s for real,” Pardo said.

Witnesses said the winds sent things, including shoes, flying up in circles. The menace passed in a few minutes. Videos show hail, and a wooden playset moving, and getting crushed by a roof.

There were large waves in a lake by a pool. A small boat was pushed out of the water and almost flipped upside down. The debris included tree limbs and fences. Some fallen trees ripped up the sidewalk.

There was a lot of work to be done to bring order back to the neighborhood. There will be more storms on Thursday afternoon in areas of South Florida.

A supercell that formed along this boundary, crossed Interstate 75 and the Turnpike in extreme northern Miami-Dade County and produced a short-lived EF0 tornado in the Palm Springs North Community
