June 21: Weather pattern fairly unchanged

The weather pattern remains fairly unchanged today, with the atmosphere continuing to support scattered showers and thunderstorms across South Florida. After starting out a bit drier this morning, heat and humidity will build through the day, allowing storms to redevelop by the afternoon and evening. For Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties, the greatest storm coverage will be inland, but some storms could spread outward later in the day. Heavy rain is possible in isolated spots, though widespread flooding is not expected.

Rain chances will begin to decrease on Monday as high pressure starts to build back into the region, helping to limit storm development. Even so, scattered afternoon storms will remain possible, especially inland. Heat will continue to be a major concern, with temperatures climbing into the low to mid-90s and heat index values reaching the low 100s. Anyone spending extended time outdoors should stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.
