MIAMI — Tuesday, Aug. 18, will go down as the hottest day ever recorded in Miami since 1942!
Miami reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit Tuesday, which only happened one other time in July 1942. Records go back to 1895.
Fort Lauderdale, meanwhile, set its own record by reaching 98 degrees, which was last set in 2024.
A heat advisory is in effect through Tuesday evening, with no rain in the forecast to bring us relief.
As skies remain mainly clear, temperatures are forecast to drop to 80°F overnight across Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Spotty afternoon thunderstorms return Wednesday and will be with us each day into the weekend. This will bring our temperatures down to the low-to-middle 90s.
It will not feel any different, however, since humidity will be higher.
If Miami reaches 97 degrees Wednesday, it will surpass the record high for the date. The heat index is forecast to peak at or over 105 degrees. Thunderstorms may develop after 4 p.m.
