MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — There are fundraisers and then there’s the Goodwill Celebration of People & Purpose!

The Rhythm and Threads event focuses on sustainability and the 20 members of the Goodwill band.

It is a sold out show complete with a runway fashion show, incorporating Goodwill finds.

The Goodwill band is made up of 20 talented musicians with disabilities, who headlined Sunday’s Rhythm and Threads event at the Miami Beach New World Center.

“I think when you see the band, you will think about capability rather than disability,” Goodwill South Florida CEO David Landsberg said.

It was a packed house and the dress-code was “thrifted chic.”

Backstage, designer Giannina Azar, who is an internationally recognized fashion designer, was getting the models ready.

Her designs have been worn by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani and Maluma.

On Sunday night, she was giving second hand clothes a second life.

Backstage, she showed Local 10 her intricate hand-sewn work and pieces found in South Florida Goodwill stores that now have her special touch.

Landsberg calls it an example of what can be done to save things from a landfill.

Goodwill has kept 40 million pounds of items out of Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe County landfills.

“When clothing or housewares have life in them, we want them to be used by the community,” Landsberg said.
