Peacock revisits the horrors of John Wayne Gacy in Devil in Disguise

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Peacock’s latest true-crime drama, “Devil in Disguise,” takes a chilling new look at one of America’s most infamous serial killers, John Wayne Gacy.

Between 1972 and 1978, more than 30 young men and boys vanished from Chicago’s suburbs. Their remains were later discovered beneath Gacy’s home — a shocking revelation that shattered the image of a man once known as a friendly contractor, volunteer and clown for charity events.

“Severance” star Michael Chernus steps into the role of Gacy, exploring how someone so ordinary could conceal such darkness. But showrunner Patrick Macmanus makes clear that the series isn’t about glorifying a killer — it’s about the victims and how such evil went unnoticed for so long.

Nearly 50 years later, Gacy’s crimes still haunt America. “Devil in Disguise” is now streaming on Peacock.
