MIAMI — Award-winning actress Lucy Liu brought her new independent film Rosemead to South Florida this weekend, as the 12th annual Miami Film Festival GEMS honored her contributions to cinema.
The film, which explores motherhood and mental health awareness, made its Miami debut Saturday night. On the red carpet, Liu spoke about the importance of discussing mental health, especially in Asian communities.
Based on a true story, Rosemead follows Irene, a woman facing her own mortality while her son becomes caught in a world shaped by violence in the media.
Liu, one of only two Asian American women with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, has starred in hits such as Kill Bill, Kung Fu Panda and Charlie’s Angels.
She received the festival’s GEMS Award and said she hopes the film inspires empathy and understanding among audiences.
