Local 10 speaks to artists hitting the stage for annual Jazz in the Gardens concert

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – This weekend, you’re going to want to put on your dancing shoes for the 16th annual Jazz in the Gardens concert.

The internationally acclaimed concert is bringing more than just jazz to Miami Gardens and Local 10′s Alexis Frazier spoke with a couple of the artists who are set to hit the stage.

Previous festivals have drawn in more than 70,000 people, and this year is going to be epic with performers like Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Ari Lennox, just to name of few.

But the ladies of soul aren’t the only ones running the show.

Grammy-award winning artist Sean Paul will also take center stage.

“You have some classic, iconic songs. What can we expect from you this weekend?” Frazier asked.

“I’m going to do the hits and it’s always a good vibe to get into these big crowds, especially when you’ve been away for a minute,” he said. “We’re going to do a couple of new songs. It’s going to be good vibe. My dancers (will be) there. It’s going to be a party for me.”

Jazz in the Gardens is also showing love to local artists.

“It’s a celebration for us. It’s for us, by us,” urban-rock soul funk vocalist April Raquel said.

Raquel is returning to the Jazz in the Gardens stage to help get you on your feet.

“I am looking to serve energy. I’m doing some original tunes, r&b and hip-hop favorites, and funk and r&b music. We’re having a soulful, good time,” she said.

You can catch Raquel on Saturday around 3 p.m. and Sean Paul is performing on Sunday.
