MIAMI — It’s a show that broke barriers, redefined Broadway and inspired generations.
Now, The Wiz is bringing all that Emerald City magic to Miami.
The national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical has arrived at the Adrienne Arsht Center, marking the venue’s 20th year of Broadway in Miami — and it’s kicking off the season with sparkle, soul and plenty of style.
The Wiz is taking audiences on a journey filled with courage, heart and rhythm.
For one South Florida performer, that yellow brick road has led right back home.
Fort Lauderdale’s own Kameren Whigham, a graduate of Dillard High School’s performing arts program, says joining the ensemble is a dream realized.
“Honestly, it’s a blessing,” Whigham said. “It’s about honoring everyone who has believed on me before the spotlight even came and giving back.”
For Sheherazade Holman, who stars as Glinda, The Wiz is more than a role — it’s a lifelong inspiration.
“It speaks to every façade of finding who you are, believing you are enough and that you can take up space in this world,” she said.
Holman grew up watching The Wiz and idolizing the women who brought it to life.
“I grew up with The Wiz since I was a little girl,” she said. “People like Lena Horne, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Deborah Cox did this. It’s monumental. I never saw this coming. It means everything to me.”
Whigham said audiences can expect a celebration of music, movement and meaning.
“It’s a show that’s celebrating Black culture, community, love, lots of dancing, singing,” he said.
Holman added that the message will stay with audiences long after the final curtain.
“I feel like the audience is going to walk out with joy,” she said.
Fans can catch The Wiz at the Adrienne Arsht Center through Sunday.
