While flowers, jewelry and other store-bought gifts remain a Mother’s Day staple, some moms say what they really want can’t be wrapped.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — While flowers, jewelry and other store-bought gifts remain a Mother’s Day staple, some moms say what they really want can’t be wrapped.

A new online survey suggests opinions are split when it comes to how mothers prefer to be celebrated. Among mothers ages 18 to 44, 42% say they prefer spending time with family, with many also placing greater value on homemade gifts rather than store-bought items.

Meanwhile, 53% of mothers surveyed say they still prefer traditional gifts such as flowers or quality time with loved ones.

But shoppers heading to the stores this year may feel the impact of rising prices, with inflation and gas costs potentially influencing how people celebrate.

In the end, some say it comes down to what matters most to each mom.
