Ariely Alvarez Cabrera faced two felony charges after detectives accused her of helping the 32-year-old father of her 5-month-old son to try to get away with the murder of Daylon Fleitas-Gonzalez, who was born in Cuba and lived in Hialeah, records show.

“Detectives are in the process of determining what was the motive,” Detective Angel Rodriguez, a Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said.

Fleitas-Gonzalez vanished on Aug. 3 in Hialeah after he drove away in his black 2011 Ford F-150 to go to a meeting with Alfredo Carballo Gonzalez, who owed him money, according to M-DCSO deputies familiar with the case.

Detectives found surveillance video showing Fleitas-Gonzalez and Carballo Gonzalez together inside a pickup truck, where detectives believe the murder happened in Medley, according to Miami-Dade prosecutors.

Detectives also found evidence that Alvarez Cabrera helped Fleitas-Gonzalez, her boyfriend, dump Carballo Gonzalez’s body in deep southwestern Miami-Dade County and clean Carballo Gonzalez’s Ford F-150, according to prosecutors.

Alvarez Cabrera, who was born in Cuba, appeared before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer and said she had been living in the U.S. for eight years.

“She drove the co-defendant away after the co-defendant put the body away,” Glazer said about the case records she had reviewed during the hearing.

The couple and the baby, who relatives in South Florida reported last saw on Aug. 7, fled to Texas, crossed the border to Mexico, and were in Cancun on their way to Cuba, according to M-DCSO deputies and prosecutors.

Detectives reported finding Fleitas-Gonzalez’s Ford F-150 with blood stains on Aug. 8 in an agricultural area near Southwest 260 Street in 227 Avenue, and his body in a recycling bin on Aug. 9 near Southwest 203 Avenue, according to deputies and prosecutors.

M-DCSO detectives identified Carballo Gonzalez and Alvarez Cabrera as fugitives on Aug. 13 and announced the arrest of Alvarez Cabrera in Mexico on Sept. 8. The baby boy’s maternal family was worried about his safety, according to prosecutors.

Broward Sheriff’s Office correctional deputies booked Alvarez Cabrera on Monday at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale, and she was extradited on Tuesday to Miami-Dade County, records show.

Ariely Alvarez Cabrera Ariely Alvarez Cabrera was booked on Tuesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade inmate records show correctional deputies booked Alvarez Cabrera shortly before 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near Doral.

Alvarez Cabrera faced charges of accessory after the fact and tampering with physical evidence. During the bond court hearing, her defense asked for a $40,000 bond and claimed she had not fled because the arrest order was issued after she traveled to Mexico, and she had surrendered after learning of it.

Glazer set Alvarez Cabrera’s bond at $200,000 and ordered her on pre-trial house arrest with a GPS and a 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. curfew. Alvarez Cabrera’s defense reported that the U.S. Marshals Service had seized her passport.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Laura Maria Gonzalez-Marques was set to preside over the case. The U.S. Marshals Service was working with M-DCSO and Miami-Dade prosecutors as the search for Carballo Gonzalez continued on Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
