JUPITER, Fla. — A 34-year-old woman faced charges in Palm Beach County after deputies reported seeing her 11 dogs crammed into dirty cages without food or water at her home in Jupiter.

Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office deputies reported that the dogs living at Leslie Torres’s home on Aug. 22 were neglected, suffered from urine scalding, and flea infestations.

On Monday, the 11 dogs were recovering and up for adoption at Furry Friends, a nonprofit no-kill rescue organization in Jupiter. Torres faced 11 felony animal cruelty charges.

“It’s really heartbreaking to hear when they’re in conditions like this ... What usually happens in situations like that is dehydration, sickness, dogs in those situations tend to generate a lot of fear,” said Nick Ferola, an adoption counselor at Furry Friends.
