Video shows restaurant employee cutting meat outside on top of garbage can

Local 10 News confronts owner of Nicaraguan cafeteria after viewer records video

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Local 10 News viewer was so disgusted by what he saw behind a Nicaraguan cafeteria near Miami Lakes that he grabbed a camera to record it.

The video shows an employee at La Hormiga de Oro II on Northwest 67th Avenue carry a raw piece of meat outside the back of the restaurant. He then uses a piece of cardboard on top of a garbage can as a cutting board to chop it up.

When Local 10 News investigative reporter Jeff Weinsier confronted the owner, he saw a raw chicken thawing on a tray by an open backdoor and a large piece of meat in the sink.

“You cut the meat outside?” he asked the owner.

“No, here inside,” the owner answered.

The concerned Local 10 viewer has an apartment that overlooks the back of the restaurant.

“It’s there, watch,” Weinsier said, showing the owner the video.

“What? No, we usually cut here,” the owner said, pointing to inside.

She was adamant Local 10 was wrong.

“He cuts the meat outside,” Weinsier told her.
