Coronavirus: 1,844 new cases confirmed in Florida Sunday, including 43 resident deaths

Florida reported 1,844 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, along with 43 more residents’ deaths.

The state is now up to 716,459 confirmed cases, 14,671 resident deaths and 174 non-resident deaths from COVID-19 that occurred here, according to the health department’s dashboard. At least 44,709 hospitalizations have been attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak.

Newly confirmed deaths over the past 24 hours include 20 in Miami-Dade County, five in Broward County and five in Palm Beach County.

The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s testing was 3.74%, according to the health department. The 14-day average is 4.52% and the 7-day is 4.43%.

Florida’s health department has also just started releasing data on COVID-19 infections at Florida schools.

The United States has passed 7.3 million confirmed cases, with over 209,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 2.8 million Americans have been deemed recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported has surpassed 34.9 million. There have been more than 1 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 24.3 million being declared recovered.
