Coronavirus: Florida reports 2,251 new cases Tuesday, 55 more deaths

Florida reported an increase of 2,251 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, along with 55 additional residents’ deaths.

The state is now up to 720,125 confirmed cases, 14,767 resident deaths and 178 non-resident deaths from COVID-19 that occurred here, according to the health department’s dashboard.

At least 45,004 hospitalizations have been attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak.

The increased death toll includes 15 from Miami-Dade County, six from Broward, two from Palm Beach County and one from Monroe.

The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s testing was 5.26%, according to the health department. It’s the first time in two weeks that that number was above 5%.

The 14-day average positivity is 4.44% and the 7-day is 4.42%.

Florida’s health department has also recently started releasing data on COVID-19 infections at Florida schools.

Deaths: 23 (+1)

Yesterday’s positivity: 7.79%

14-day positivity: 4.03%

7-day positivity: 5.39%

PALM BEACH

Cases: 47,244 (+91)

Deaths: 1,396 (+2)

Yesterday’s positivity: 3.95%

The United States has passed 7.4 million confirmed cases, with over 210,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 2.9 million Americans have been deemed recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported has surpassed 35.5 million. There have been more than 1 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 24.7 million being declared recovered.
