Florida’s health department confirmed an increase of 7,459 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with the state also reporting 85 more resident deaths as a result of the virus.
Florida is now up to 897,323 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 17,644 resident deaths, according to the health department’s dashboard. The state has also reported 217 non-resident deaths that occurred here, and 52,329 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak.

The statewide positivity rate on yesterday’s testing was 8.64%. The 14-day average positivity rate is 7.76% and the 7-day is 8.18%.
Deaths confirmed in the past 24 hours in South Florida include 14 in Miami-Dade County, two in Broward County and eight in Palm Beach County.
The most recent White House Coronavirus Task Force weekly briefing for governors, dated Nov. 15, was obtained by ABC News and says “Florida is in the midst of a viral resurgence and with aggressive action now, can contain this surge.”
Concern is also rising as cases increase at long-term care facilities in the state.
And last Wednesday the health department released a new report that shows more than 820 schools across South Florida have had COVID-19 cases over the past two months.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 55.1 million. There have been more than 1.3 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 35.4 million being declared recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has passed 11.2 million confirmed cases, with over 247,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 4.2 million Americans have been deemed recovered.
