Coronavirus: Florida adds 6,277 new cases Saturday and 79 more resident deaths

Despite CDC coronavirus warning, Thanksgiving travelers crowding South Florida airports

Florida’s health department reported an increase of 6,277 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with 79 more resident deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus.

Florida is now up to 985,297 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 18,442 resident deaths, according to the health department’s dashboard.

The state has also reported that at least 235 non-resident deaths have occurred here, and there have been at least 54,591 hospitalizations attributed to the virus since the start of the outbreak.

The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s testing was 7.14%. The 14-day average positivity rate is 7.36% and the 7-day is 6.90%.

Deaths confirmed in the past 24 hours in South Florida include 24 in Miami-Dade County, four in Broward County and two in Palm Beach County.

More than 35% of the new cases reported Saturday were in Miami-Dade and Broward.

Latest totals

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 61.9 million. There have been more than 1.4 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 39.4 million being declared recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has passed 13.4 million confirmed cases, with more than 265,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world. Over 4.9 million Americans have been deemed recovered.
