Man dies after shooting in Miami, police say

MIAMI – A man in his 20s died on Thursday after a shooting in Miami’s Allapattah area.

Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo and detectives responded to the Rosemont Park apartment complex on Northwest 24th Street, between Northwest 21st and Northwest 19th Avenues.

Officers surrounded the dark beige, two-story buildings owned by the Miami-Dade County housing agency, just west of Juan Pablo Duarte Park.

“The suspect that we have a description of is a Black male from his teens ... early 20s, 5″6 to 5″8, 140-60 pounds, blue jeans, and a gray hoodie,” Acevedo said. “We put out that broadcast citywide ... we are actively looking for that individual.”

Miami Fire Rescue personnel took the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where a doctor pronounced him dead.

According to Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the police department, detectives are withholding the victim’s identity until next of kin notifications are completed.

A police officer was standing next to a fallen bicycle that was within the area officers surrounded with yellow crime scene tape. A white mobile crime scene investigation vehicle was parked nearby.

Delva is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
