Charges pending against driver of truck that crashed into toddler’s bedroom

TAMARAC, Fla. – A driver behind the wheel of a pickup truck slammed into a Tamarac home Wednesday afternoon.

The incident was reported around 6 p.m. in the 2300 block of Northwest 55th Street.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the Ford F-150 was heading north on Northwest 23rd Avenue when the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the home.

A massive hole was left behind following the collision.

“My neighbor, she called me (and) said, ‘Ari, a car crashed into your house,’” Arisleida Taveras told Local 10 News on Thursday.

Taveras said when she got that call, her first concern was her 2-year-old son.

The blue pickup truck ended up inside his room, but thankfully the room was empty when the truck came crashing through.

Taveras said her mother, who was home at the time, was in shock, thinking a plane had crashed into the house.

“She was inside and she don’t know what she do,” Taveras said. “The neighbor come and helping her and my baby to get out.”

Tamarac Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene and transported the driver to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Taveras’ son and mother were not injured.

The Tamarac Building Inspector also responded to the scene, and the home has been deemed unsafe.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
