According to the suspect’s arrest report, the victim had locked his bike in a designated bike spot, but when he came back, it was gone.

Police said the victim was able to track its location with an AirTag he had installed on it and told police it was in the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and 34th Street, in Allapattah.

According to the report, an officer was patrolling the area and spotted the suspect, Livan Ochoa, who is homeless, with two electric bicycles, one of which matched the description of the victim’s bike.

Police said Ochoa was detained and an officer patted him down, finding a hammer in his waistband and a screwdriver in his right pocket.

The victim and his mother arrived to the area a short time later and the victim identified his bike, providing a receipt for it which showed it cost $2,509.15.

The victim also identified his $70 bike lock, which had been cut, authorities said.

The victim told police that one of the AirTags that had been placed on the bike had been discarded.

Police said Ochoa declined to provide a statement to police.

He was arrested on charges of grand theft, tampering with physical evidence, possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief.

As of Friday morning, Ochoa remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in lieu of a $16,000 bond.
