Police officers described the boy as “disabled” and “nonverbal” and reported Edwards had left the boy home alone at about 9:20 a.m.

A witness reported Edwards was at home with the boy when he left for work at about 4 a.m., according to a police report.

Police officers didn’t identify the relationship that the boy has with Edwards or the witness. A bond court judge ordered Edwards to stay away from the child, records show.

Edwards’s arraignment hearing is set for 9 a.m., on Jan. 8. Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge William Altfield is set to preside over the case.

Miami-Dade detectives were asking anyone with information about the case to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
