FLORIDA CITY, Fla. — Police said a woman was holding a friend’s baby when she pepper-sprayed a worker during a dispute at a Wingstop in Florida City. They said the spat had nothing to do with chicken, though.

According to Florida City police, the crime happened on the afternoon of April 8, but officers took Indya Lashae Reed into custody on Tuesday. They said the baby’s mother, Ciara Ashanti Minton, was also involved in the fight; she was arrested on Monday.

Police said Minton and Reed, both 20, walked into the Wingstop at 33550 S. Dixie Highway and began arguing with a worker inside.

Arrest reports state that Minton, of Florida City, “used to date” the worker’s brother and the two were arguing over “past issues between them,” namely, an instance where the victim “spoke bad” about Minton’s baby while she was pregnant.

Those reports state that the victim “ignored” Minton, so Minton “pass(ed) her baby” to Reed, of southwest Miami-Dade, who then “pulled out a canister of pepper-spray” and “began to spray the victim in the face.”

Minton then began to hit the victim, scratching her face, according to police. The two fled before officers arrived, the reports state.

Investigators, who said “the scent of pepper spray (was) still lingering in the air” when officers got to the restaurant, said CCTV footage showed the attack.

Police said a wanted flyer was put out for Minton and they went to her home on Monday to take her into custody on a misdemeanor battery charge.

Authorities said Minton explained that the acrimony between her and the worker stemmed from a “dispute” in Homestead about two years prior where the woman told Minton, while pregnant, “F--- your baby” and threatened her with a hoverboard.

Police said Minton told officers that she had “no intentions (of) fighting” the woman, saying she “didn’t know (she) worked” at the Wingstop.

Authorities said Reed said the same thing when officers went to her home to arrest her on an aggravated battery charge on Tuesday.

Minton would bond out of jail on Monday. Meanwhile, Reed was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $1,000 bond as of Wednesday.
