MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – The owner of a northwest Miami-Dade tire shop remained jailed without bond Tuesday after police said he shot and wounded a landscaper Friday after an argument about leaves blowing onto his property.

He’s been charged with attempted murder.

While the suspect was initially reported as a homeowner, Claudio Arrendell owns the P & P Auto Tire Shop at 1550 NW 79th St., where the shooting occurred, according to state business records.

According to police, at around 12:35 p.m., the 52-year-old got into the argument while the landscaper was sitting inside of his vehicle, parked near the Gladeview-area business.

Police said the victim got out and approached Arrendell, who was standing on the sidewalk.

After a brief exchange of words, Arrendell took out a revolver from his ankle and fired twice, wounding the man as he ran away, an arrest report states. Medics later took the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

Police said the business owner would later claim that the victim took out a machete and punched him, but they said surveillance footage disproved that claim.

It’s not the first run-in with police for Arrendell, who lives in the Country Club area of northwest Miami-Dade. According to Miami-Dade court records, in 2002, he was arrested for aggravated battery on a pregnant victim; that charge was later reduced to a misdemeanor, and then subsequently dropped.
