BSO: Deputies shoot, kill domestic violence suspect in Oakland Park

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – Broward County deputies swarmed an industrial district of Oakland Park after deputies opened fire and killed a person described as a “domestic violence suspect” Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at around 2:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Prospect Road, west of Dixie Highway.

Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Carey Codd said deputies had been looking for the suspect and, after a confrontation and standoff, were “forced to fire their weapons.”

Authorities pronounced the suspect dead at the scene, Codd said. Authorities haven’t said whether the suspect was armed.

A worker at a nearby business, Sammy’s Windows, told Local 10 News she heard about seven or eight shots. She said she heard deputies order someone out of a vehicle before gunfire rang out; images from Sky 10 showed multiple bullet holes in the windshield of a BMW SUV.

Video taken by a witness and obtained by Local 10 News shows the moments the gunfire erupted.

“When he finally jumped out of the car, he jumped out of the car with a gun and pointed it at the officers,” said witness Korey Paraison, who filmed the video.

Paraison, who works at another nearby business, reported hearing 10 to 15 shots.

“It was like five cops right behind him. Of course, there was a bunch of cops all around,” he said. “He shot once and they shot probably 10-15 times.”

Officers can be heard in the video asking the suspect to get out of his vehicle.

You can see the suspect exiting as deputies tell him, “Let’s see your hands now.”

“When he finally jumped out of the car, he jumped out of the car with a gun and pointed it at the officers,” Paraison said.

BSO has not yet confirmed whether the suspect was armed, nor have they released his name or age.

The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty, pending an investigation into the shooting, per standard protocol.
