Driver plunges car into Margate pool

MARGATE, Fla. – A driver drove his vehicle into a pool in a Margate neighborhood Tuesday.

The crash happened just before 12:30 p.m. at a home in the 1400 block of Northwest 62nd Terrace, just off Margate Boulevard.

Police and a tow truck were at the scene.

“A resident inadvertently crashed their car into the pool,” Lt. Al Banatte, a Margate Police Department spokesperson, said in an email to Local 10 News Tuesday.

The owner of the home, Anne Dieudonne, says the driver was her 69-year-old father and said her family members jumped in to help get him out.

“Thank you to God, my son and my father (are) alive,” she said. “I can say only thank you to God.”

No one was hurt and authorities were investigating the cause of the crash, Banatte said.
