Fire crews battle blaze aboard catamaran in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue crews battled a fire aboard a roughly 60-foot catamaran Sunday morning.

Video obtained by Local 10 shows the vessel, identified as the “Promiscuous,” fully engulfed in flames. The fire appeared to be concentrated toward the stern.

The fire unfolded in the 100 block of Hendricks Isles in Fort Lauderdale. According to fire rescue, residents called in the fire around 6:05 a.m.

Smoke could be seen billowing into the air for miles as crews rushed to the scene.

Residents told Local 10 they woke up to a small fire that grew within seconds. At one point, they said they heard what sounded like an explosion as the vessel was consumed by flames.

Nearly 20 Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue units responded, according to officials.

Video from the scene shows crews using tools to cut into the vessel and access hotspots that continued to smolder.

According to residents, the “Promiscuous” was up for sale for about $1 million.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
