FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – On Saturday, in court, Broward County Circuit Judge Elijah Williams said a 62-year-old executive’s domestic violence case was “egregious.”

Ernest “Ernie” Varvoutis, an executive with decades of experience in the healthcare sector, was at the Broward County main jail when his case went before Williams on Saturday.

“Allegedly you used a dog collar around the individual’s neck,” Williams told Varvoutis in court.

Police officers with the Lighthouse Point Police Department arrested Varvoutis on Friday and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies booked him in Fort Lauderdale.

Varvoutis was facing a charge of domestic battery by strangulation. Williams ordered Varvouties to have “no contact with the young lady.” The judge also ordered standard pre-trial services and a $25,000 bond.

Records show Broward County Circuit Judge Susan L. Alspector was presiding over the pending domestic violence case at the Central Courthouse.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
