MIAMI – A woman allegedly told police officers she had grabbed a bat to defend herself from men in Homestead. The police officers later decided to arrest her.

According to the arrest report, Yilian Herrera said a conflict got so bad that her boyfriend had to hide her from his roommates in his apartment’s master bathroom.

“Yilian grabbed a baseball bat that was being stored in the bathroom for protection,” Officer V. Carril wrote in his report.

According to the arrest report, Herrera, 42, took the bat with her when she was leaving the apartment on April 16, and once she got to the front door she struck her boyfriend on his left arm and upper back.

The victim in the case required medical attention.

Police officers arrested Herrera, and correctional officers booked her shortly after 6:15 a.m., on Friday, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Herrera appeared before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer on Friday afternoon. She was facing a charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm with a weapon.

The defense described Herrera as an unemployed mother of two. Glazer ordered her to stay away from the alleged victim, and she also ordered house arrest with a GPS monitor.

The prosecution reported there was no action against Herrera on a domestic violence incident with the same victim in February, disagreed on house arrest, and determined there was probable cause for a second-degree felony.

Glazer set Herrera’s alternate bond at $3,000.
