Miami PD: Man fatally shot in front of granddaughter during burglary

MIAMI — Miami police are investigating after a man was shot in front of his granddaughter Thursday morning after confronting a burglar.

The shooting was reported in the 700 block of Southwest Fifth Street in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood.

According to police, a man in his 60s, who was with his young granddaughter, confronted the burglar and a fight ensued between the two.

Police said the victim was shot during the altercation and the burglar fled the scene on foot.

According to authorities, the victim was initially listed in critical condition, but he has since died from his injuries.

Surveillance video from an adjacent building was obtained by investigators and is helping them identify the suspect, as well as another sighing of him from a nearby resident.

No other details were immediately released.
