A South Florida speller made it to the top 20 in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
13-year-old Nikhil Sha is a 7th grader at Palmetto Middle School in Miami.

Sha was eliminated on Wednesday in the ninth-round of the semi-finals and finished the competition in the 20th spot out of more than 240 spellers.
12-year-old Hadi Abbasi, a 6th grader at Franklin Academy in Pembroke Pines also earned some bragging rights after making it to the sixth round.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the spelling bee. Since the first competition, millions of students have competed.
The competition, sponsored by the Miami Herald, will run through Thursday, May 29.
Last year’s winner, a 12-year-old from St. Petersburg, Florida, Bruhat Soma won $50,000.
Bruhat’s winning word was “abseil.”
