It happened shortly after 8 p.m. in the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and 87th Street.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Robbery Intervention Team (RID) tried to pull over a black Mercedes-Benz in the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and 71st Street, but the driver fled.

MDSO aviation units that were overheard then observed the vehicle striking a civilian vehicle in the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and 87th Street, authorities said.

“The subject vehicle came to a stop in the roadway,” MDSO said in a news release. “Deputies arrived and approached the vehicle, at which time the subject exited the vehicle armed.”

Authorities said a deputy fired at the suspect, striking him in the legs.

Deputies then provided first aid to the suspect until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel arrived, at which time he was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

A woman who was driving the civilian vehicle was not injured, deputies confirmed.

Local 10 News spoke with a resident in the area who said one of the vehicles involved in the crash ended up in his front yard, just inches away from his home.

“I heard this crash and then I heard gunshots, and the young lady said, ‘Is everything OK?’ I said, ‘I don’t know. I think they hit my house,’” Vincient Miles said. “So I go outside, I see that my air conditioning system is gone, but the house miraculously has about 6 inches between the actual car and my house. So the only thing I have on the side of the house is a scrape from the tires, but when I come out, I see that my fence is destroyed, I see that my air conditioning is destroyed.”

“The only thing I think that saved my house was the air conditioning system because the car impacted it,” Miles added. “I feel blessed. I know who protected this house. I’ve had this happen on more than one occasion.”

No deputies were injured, but two firearms were recovered from the suspect’s vehicle, authorities said.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
