South Florida law enforcement on alert after ‘terror attack’ in Colorado

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Synagogues in South Florida have been ramping up security after a 45-year-old Egyptian national injured eight people during a Jewish community event on Sunday in Colorado, authorities said.

The Miami Beach and Sunny Isles Beach police departments were among the law enforcement agencies that released statements about the efforts they are taking to protect their communities.

Homeland Security described Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a Colorado Springs resident and Uber driver, as an “illegal alien” who engaged in a “targeted terror attack” in Boulder and announced the “revamping” of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tip line.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino described Soliman’s attack with a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails as “ideologically motivated violence” at the outdoor Pearl Street Mall in Boulder.

“Free Palestine,” Soliman shouted, according to Mark Michalek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Denver field office.

Soliman focused on Run for Their Lives volunteers who were advocating for Hamas to release more of the hostages who have been held in Gaza since the attack on Oct. 7, 2023.

Soliman faces a federal hate crime just about a week after another attack against the Jewish community.

Records show Elias Rodriguez confessed to fatally shooting Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, a couple who worked at the Israeli Embassy, on May 21 outside Washington, D.C.’s Capital Jewish Museum.

“I did it for Palestine; I did it for Gaza,” Rodriguez shouted after the shooting, according to police.
