Man faces child abuse charge after attack at Miami-Dade park

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 32-year-old man abused a 16-year-old boy he didn’t know at a public park in Miami-Dade County, according to deputies.

Alvaro Mendoza attacked the teenage boy, who lives in Cutler Bay, at Westwind Lakes Park in Kendall West, according to Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies.

During a struggle, Mendoza grabbed the teen’s skateboard and struck him with it shortly after 5:10 p.m., at 6805 SW 152 Ave., according to deputies.

Mendoza, who lives in The Crossings, ran away from deputies who eventually caught up to him and arrested him at the park, records show.

Correctional deputies booked Mendoza at about 9:05 p.m. at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, and he appeared in court on Wednesday.

Mendoza, who wasn’t related to the teen, faced a charge of child abuse, records show. A circuit judge set his bond at $5,000.
