MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 36-year-old man is facing charges after authorities say he fatally struck an 82-year-old man and fled the scene in Miami-Dade’s Pinewood neighborhood last month.
Jail records show Isaleb Anofils was arrested Wednesday and faces one count each of vehicular homicide in a reckless manner and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office say the deadly crash happened just after 3:30 a.m. on June 29, at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 115th Street.
They say Anofils was behind the wheel of a 2020 Nissan Maxima traveling southbound on Northwest Seventh Avenue at a high rate of speed when he struck Austin Rostan Noel while he was crossing the street.
The force of the collision vaulted Noel more than 150 feet onto the roadway, where he came to rest, according to the report.
Anofils then lost control of the car, which veered left and hit a raised center median before coming to a stop near Northwest 112th Street, according to detectives.
Deputies say Anofils exited the car and fled without calling 911 or rendering aid.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded and pronounced Noel dead at the scene at 3:44 a.m., authorities confirmed.
Detectives with MDSO’s Homicide Task Force said they located Anofils on Wednesday and brought him in for questioning.
According to the report, Anofils invoked his Miranda rights and declined to provide a statement.
As of Thursday, he was being held on a $27,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He was also issued a no-drive order.
